The finding, reported in the Journal of Neuroscience, builds on previous research that found smokers were more likely to fancy a cigarette after watching films that included smoking scenes. “When a smoker sees someone smoking,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], their brain seems to simulate the movements they would make if they were having a cigarette themselves,” said Todd Heatherton at the Centre for Social Brain Sciences at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire.
While former smokers might be able to avoid some social situations that could tempt them to smoke again, the ubiquity of movies and television makes it hard to escape the occasional smoking scene, the researchers said. “In our daily lives we constantly get impulses to do things and often we don’t know where they come from. If we can identify how something like a movie can affect us, then perhaps it will at least help us deal with it,” Heatherton said.
“Let’s educate their young, if we can,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], of the danger of smoking,” he said. Dr Rosliza concurred and said it’s everyone’s responsibility to educate, disseminate right information to these peoples. “The risk that ‘sigup, jakok, lukok’ smokers exposed to are very similar to cigarette smokers,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],[link widoczny dla zalogowanych],” she said. “Lung cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], oral cancer, esophagus,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], larynx, cheap newport cigarettes online, gangrene, impotence etc., basically, all these are caused by tar and nicotine found in tobacco.
Dr Rosliza admitted there is still lack of research among roll-your-own tobacco locally. On that ground ‘sigup’ ‘jakok’ ‘lukok’ smokers can probably argue it is still a safer than cigarette. Smoking is banned in the common areas of Yelena Lantsman’s home, a public-housing high-rise for the elderly in Brookline, Massachusetts, where she has lived for the last eighteen years. But it is not banned in the apartments themselves. Lantsman, an immigrant from the Ukraine, does not complain about neighbors who smoke.
It would be awkward. But asked if she would support a total, building-wide ban on smoking, she answers without a moment’s hesitation: “Absolutely. Smoking hurts those who smoke, and those who are nearby.” Welcome to the next front in the battle against Big Tobacco: public housing. Following the passage in 23 states of laws that ban smoking in workplaces, restaurants, and bars,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], anti-smoking advocates are increasingly training their sights on private spaces in public buildings.
Last June, in Boston’s Roslindale neighborhood, the Washington-Beech housing development became the city’s debut smoke-free public housing site—the first step toward the Boston’s Housing Authority’s ambitious goal of clearing the air by 2013 at all 64 public housing sites. And in 2009, an office within the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development issued a memorandum that “strongly encourages Public Housing Authorities … to implement nonsmoking policies in some or all of their public housing units.
