Temat postu: Turkish FM vows to carry relations with Saudi Arab

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Wednesday that Turkey is determined to carry relations with Saudi Arabia to the highest level.
Davutoglu made the remarks at a joint press conference with visiting Saudi Foreign Minister Saud bin al-Faysal bin Abdul-Aziz al-Saud in the Turkish capital Ankara [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], saying that Saud al-Faysal paid high importance to the friendship between the two countries.
Saudi Arabia is one of the most important countries in the region for regional peace, said Davutoglu, adding that Turkey and Saudi Arabia are involved in peace projects, including the inter- faith dialogue and the alliance of civilizations.
Turkey and Saudi Arabia have signed a military cooperation agreement and Turkish defense minister will visit Saudi Arabia in March, noted Davutoglu, adding that there is great potential for cooperation in the fields of transportation, energy [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], commerce and construction.
Davutoglu also backed a Saudi-Syrian initiative to prevent a political crisis in Lebanon, saying "the essential effort at the moment is aimed at preventing the escalation of tensions and ensuring that the initiative of Saudi Arabia and Syria succeeds."
For his part, Saud al-Faysal warned that the prospect of political instability posed "a great danger" for Lebanon and the region.
"If the resignations materialize, if there is a split... this may lead to a conflict... and this poses a great danger... Lebanon may face the problems it faced before and this will affect the countries in the region [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," he said.
"We wish that those resignations do not happen," he said.
Lebanon has been at a political impasse for months due to reports that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) will indict Hezbollah members in its investigation of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri's 2005 assassination, a step the party has repeatedly warned against.
