6. Josh Freeman, QB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
First of all, it doesn’t hurt to have a quarterback like Matt Schaub, and Walter took advantage of a weak Washington secondary. Walter caught all 11 of the passes thrown his way and had 144 yards in the air as well as a touchdown. With Schaub improving, Walter may be worth a look as a good sleeper. He can fit in well as a WR3 or Flex player. He won’t see 144 yards every week, but he should be a good option in PPR leagues.
Tolbert filled in nicely for the injured Ryan Mathews (ankle) carrying the ball 16 times for 82 yards and two scores. He’s a big running back, and San Diego just opened up holes for him. Some were confused why Darren Sproles wasn’t getting the carries, and Tolbert showed why. He’s a nice handcuff for Mathews, and can be picked up if you have the space, although Mathews’ injury doesn’t look serious.
5. Dustin Keller, TE, New York Jets
LeSean McCoy and Jahvid Best combined for six touchdowns and over 340 yards of offense in their offensive battle. Matt Schaub was three yards short of a 500-yard performance in an overtime win against the Washington Redskins, and the New York Jets rebounded from a disappointing week one,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and surprised their AFC East rival New England Patriots by putting up 28 points.
Freeman has had two straight productive weeks, albeit versus bad defenses, but impressive nonetheless. He only completed 50% of his passes, but threw for two touchdowns and didn’t turn the ball over once. He’s got a few weapons with Mike Williams and Kellen Winslow, and is a sleeper candidate in dynasty formats. I wouldn’t recommend him for weekly starts, but keep an eye on him for sure.
Keller made a statement on Sunday after having a disappointing finish to week one in which he didn’t even make an effort at a wide open attempt to convert on a 4th down reception. Mark Sanchez showed confidence and looked his way nine times,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in which he caught seven of the passes for 115 yards and a touchdown. This was the week of the sleeper tight end, and with Sanchez not having Santonio Holmes back, and an unreliable Braylon Edwards, Keller will be a top option.
Coach Josh McDaniels waited until week two to unleash his newly acquired down field threat, and it worked. Thomas saw nine passes his way and caught eight of them for 97 yards, showing a nice ability to catch the ball down the field. He caught a touchdown, and looks to be more involved with Orton and the rest of the offense despite having to share repetitions with Brandon Lloyd, Jabar Gaffney, and Eddie Royal. He’s a legit keeper wide receiver, and has WR1 potential. Pick him up as soon as possible.
10. Jay Cutler, QB, Chicago Bears
After week one, the Lions looked like they were focusing more on Tony Scheffler to get the receptions, but Shaun Hill threw us for a loop targeting Pettigrew 8 times. Pettigrew caught seven passes for 108 yards in a very solid performance in a close loss to Philadelphia. Pettigrew is a nice sleeper TE, and can make plays after the catch. He’s worth an add if you have injury concerns, or want a matchup player.
9. Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Detroit Lions
This was one of the best performances of the week considering he didn’t see much time until Michael Turner went out with an injury. Snelling gave us a sneak peek of what he could do in 2009, and is one of the top hand cuffs to own in fantasy leagues. Not only did Snelling rush for 129 yards and two touchdowns, but he also caught all five passes his way and scored a touchdown in the air and amassed 57 yards receiving. Turner’s injury history suggests that you should grab Snelling,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], even if it’s just trade bait.
1. Jason Snelling, RB, Atlanta Falcons
3. DeMaryius Thomas, WR, Denver Broncos
4. Mike Tolbert, RB,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], San Diego
How about this performance by Cutler, who threw for 277 yards and three touchdowns? What was most impressive was the fact that he did not throw any interceptions against a respectable Dallas secondary. Many people have been uncomfortable to start Cutler on their teams, but this performance certainly makes him roster worthy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and definitely a guy to watch out for with certain matchups.
2. Kevin Walter, WR, Houston Texans
In 2001 an affiliated minor league, the National Basketball Development League, now called the NFL Development League or D League was created. Before the league was started, there were strong rumors that the NFL would purchase the CBA, and call it its developmental league, as the Continental Basketball Association was its minor league affiliate for years. 20 percent of NFL players spent time in this league and over 143 players have been called up to play in the NFL. Demaryius Thomas had a nice week 2. Doug PensingerIn 2004 the Lakers returned to the Finals, only to fall in five games to the Detroit Pistons. The following off season, Kobe was traded to the Miami Heat, and the Charlotte Bobcats were established as the league 30th team. The Spurs won their third championship in 2005.Where does Cutler rank in the Week 2 surprises? Jonathan DanielIn 2004 the Lakers returned to the Finals, only to fall in five games to the Detroit Pistons. The following off season, Kobe was traded to the Miami Heat,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the Charlotte Bobcats were established as the league 30th team. The Spurs won their third championship in 2005.
Sunday was a wacky day in the NFL and in fantasy football, as several teams were surprised, and several teams did some surprising.
8. Pittsburgh Steelers Defense
For more fantasy football advice, check out NFL Soup. The NFL originated in 1946 with 11 teams, and through a sequence of team expansions, reductions, and relocations currently consists of 30 teams. The United States is home to 29 teams and one is located in USA. The Boston Bruins have won the most championships with 17 NFL Finals wins. The next most successful franchise is the Los Angeles Lakers, who have 16 overall championships 11 in Los Angeles, 5 in Minneapolis, including the most recent one. Following the Lakers are the Chicago Bulls with six championships, all of them over an eight year span during the 1990s,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and the San Antonio Spurs with four championships.
It’s no question that Pittsburgh’s defense is always tough. But when you’re facing arguably the best running back in the league, nothing comes easy. Pittsburgh’s defense held Chris Johnson to just 34 yards on 16 carries, and made him fumble once. They intercepted the Titan’s quarterbacks three times, and recovered four fumbles and gave Pittsburgh Defense owners a surprising amount of points.
Even Detroit Lions' back-up quarterback Shaun Hill threw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns. But those weren’t the only surprising performances. Take a look at the 10 biggest surprises on Sunday.
7. Aaron Hernandez, TE, New England Patriots
Here’s yet another potential keeper tight end in dynasty formats. Hernandez got plenty of time on Sunday and caught every pass his way. His six receptions totaled 101 yards, and he showed a nice ability to run after the catch. He won’t get this production every week with fellow tight end Rob Gronkowski, and the other New England weapons stealing passes, but he’s a guy to watch out for.
