Temat postu: 8 Tips on How a Wedding Guest Should Dress at an O |
|
|
Getting invited to an overseas wedding can be a real thrill. You have such a good excuse to turn a wedding into an extended trip overseas and will be really excited when you start booking your flights and hotels. Then, suddenly nearer the time, you realize that you have no idea what you're supposed to wear to a destination wedding.
Here are 8 handy tips to help you work out how to dress appropriately for the occasion:
1. The first thing you should do is dig out the wedding invitation that you were sent,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or take a look at the couple's wedding website and see if a dress code was mentioned in the print. A well thought-out wedding invitation should mention whether attire should be black-tie, semi-formal or day wear.
2. If the invitation hasn't made the dress code clear, then try and get in touch with either the bride, groom or a member of the wedding party who you're close to, such as a bridesmaid or best man. They'll be able to provide you with more advice about the tone of the day. Please don't feel awkward about bothering them,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they'll want to make sure that you and the rest of their guests feel comfortable. They may also have expectations of how everyone will look in the group shots that they have planned with their photographer.
3. Try and work out how much walking or moving around will be necessary on the day of the wedding. If the ceremony and reception are in different locations, how will you get from A to B? This will help you think about footwear. Is the wedding taking place in a cold climate or an exotic location such as beach? You'll obviously want to wear quite a difference outfit at a beach wedding than you would do at an Alpine winter wedding.
4. Find out if there are other wedding-related celebrations that you'll be expected to attend. As overseas weddings allow the opportunity for the bride and groom to spend a little longer with their guests, it's quite likely that there will be some pre or post-wedding day celebrations taking place. If this is the case, check that you have the correct dress code sorted for these events in addition to your wedding day wardrobe.
5. Be careful when packing your wedding outfit, particularly if you have to travel on a plane. If you're packing it in a suitcase,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], then be absolutely sure that there aren't any liquids near it that may spill and stain it. Satin for instance will be ruined if it's marked. You may be better carrying your dress or [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] as hand luggage in a garment cover.
6. When you arrive at the destination venue,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], make sure you unpack your wedding outfit immediately and survey the damage done by creasing. It's wise to bring a steam brush with you, but if you haven't done so, then see if your hotel has a dry-cleaning service. Alternatively, a good trick is to hang your outfit up in the bathroom whilst you're having a shower. The natural steam allows the creases in your [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] to fall out somewhat. You may want to avoid bringing an outfit in a material that is notorious for creasing such as linen.
7. Remember to bring all the [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] with you that accompany your outfit. These may include tights, stockings,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], black socks, black shoes, matching handbag and a [link widoczny dla zalogowanych]less bra.
8. Always make sure that your wedding guest outfit will allow for you to be able to gain a little bit of holiday weight. It's amazing how quickly the pounds fly on when you're eating good food and drinking a few glasses of wine every day. Don't be caught out, particularly if you're arriving several days in advance of the wedding.
